Pasta Tree Temporarily Closes

An injury and staffing shortages have forced the Italian restaurant to close for now.

The Pasta Tree restaurant and wine bar, a long-standing eatery on Milwaukee’s Lower East Side, will be closed possibly until late July due to an injury sustained by owner and chef Suzzette Metcalfe.

In a recent Facebook post, Metcalfe said she injured her dominant hand and the recovery will take four to six weeks.

“It saddens me to do this, but I will temporarily be closing the restaurant,” Metcalfe wrote.

Like many restaurants, the Pasta Tree’s operations have been negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic, leaving many struggling to find and keep employees.

“Due to the impact of the pandemic on the restaurant industry, we are currently without a back-up chef,” Metcalfe explained.

The Pasta Tree, 1503 N. Farwell Ave., has been serving Italian dishes to patrons for nearly four decades. House specialties include smoked salmon alfredo, beef tenderloin stroganoff and homemade manicotti.

“I’m looking forward to getting back behind the stove and making the food that I love to share with the community,” Metcalfe wrote in concluding the post.
