Claressa Shields makes her MMA debut tonight on ESPN2.

Tonight in Atlantic City, boxing star Claressa Shields will make her mixed martial arts debut with PFL, facing Brittney Elkin in the main event of PFL 4 for the 2021 regular season.

Explaining seasons and whatnot would be kind of a pointless bunch of word-padding here, as we’re here for the curious boxing fan wanting to see Shields try her hand at MMA, so we won’t bother.

Prelims start at 7:00 pm ET on ESPN+, and the main card will kick off at 10:00 pm ET, streaming on ESPN+ and airing on ESPN2.

Shields, of course, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-division pro world champion — going undisputed at 154 and 160 — and is the betting favorite here against Brittney Elkin, who has a 3-6 record in MMA and last won a fight in 2016, having not fought since early 2019.

The card will also feature Clay Collard, the MMA veteran who became a boxing folk hero in 2020, as he faces Joilton Lutterbach in what will serve as the co-feature. You can get a look at the full card over at Sherdog.

We’ll be here to chat and watch the show and all that, something different for us so feel free to join as I learn whomst the heck Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Tyler Diamond are as we lead up to Shields’ big debut.
