Hue Is Building a New Bay View Location

The new digs will make it possible for Hue to continue to expand.

Vietnamese restaurant Hue (2691 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) is beginning construction on its new Bay View location – the former Sven’s Cafe (2699 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.).

The new space is expected to be completed in fall of 2021. Until then, Hue will continue to operate out of its 11-year-old existing location. Sven’s closed in 2019, and Hue owners Cat Tran and Mark Nielsen purchased the building that housed it.

The project gives Hue room to grow. Advantages of the new space include a patio (on the Kinnickinnic/Logan avenues corner), an expanded dining room and a larger kitchen. The latter will help Hue’s food truck, catering and production for its frozen, read-to-cook meals program called SquareMeal. Two stories will also be added to the front of the existing building, creating three studio apartments on the second level.

Hue closed its Wauwatosa location (6519 W. North Ave.) in April.
