Arlington Heights police officers responded about 7:40 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2021 to a report of a fight in progress and subsequent stabbing at 810 East Falcon Drive in Arlington Heights. Upon arrival, two victims were discovered with knife wounds, with one also sustaining blunt force trauma to the torso from battering with a baseball bat. Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics transported both victims to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for treatment of traumatic injuries connected to a violent attack. Mount Prospect Fire Department paramedics also responded to the scene, but did not transport a third person, who apparently suffered minor injuries.

The investigation of the violent attack on Falcon Drive just east of Goebbert Road, and directly in front of the Forest View Racquet & Health Club, identified Dylan Chavez, age 22, of the block of 26000 North Fairfield Road in Wauconda as the suspect that used a knife and a baseball bat to injure two people. A third person was also injured and treated and released at the scene, but the Arlington Heights Police Department did not describe any details about the third person’s injuries or their connection to the incident.

The investigation revealed that two women, who had previously been coworkers, were involved in a dispute on social media, which culminated in an agreed-upon meeting to physically fight near one of the combatants’ residences in Arlington Heights. While this altercation was occurring, the boyfriend of the Arlington Heights resident interceded to help his girlfriend in the fight after arming himself with a knife and an aluminum baseball bat. In the ensuing melee, the suspect is accused of stabbing the other female in the upper back, which caused the female victim to suffer a punctured lung. The suspect is also accused of striking a male friend of hers in the side of his torso with an aluminum baseball bat. The suspect also attempted to stab the other girl’s boyfriend. In defense, the male victim grabbed the knife blade and suffer defensive wounds on his hands. The battering of his torso by the suspect with the baseball bat also caused the male to suffer a lacerated spleen. Both victims are expected to make a full recovery as the injuries are not initially considered life-threatening.

The male offender fled to his home in Wauconda in Lake County, where he was apprehended by Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office turned over the suspect to Arlington Heights detectives for continuing investigation.

After obtaining witness and offender statements and collecting all physical evidence, the case was referred to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office for approval of appropriate charges. The offender was charged and taken to Bond Court, where he posted 10% of the established $10,000 D bond and was released.

The Arlington Heights Police Department on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 did not respond to a request to release a booking photo of the suspect, as is required by the Illinois Statutes Local Government Local Records Act (50 ILCS 205).

Also, the Arlington Heights Police Department did not release the time of the arrest, or the time and date that the individual was received and discharged from the custody of the arresting agency (the Arlington Heights Police Department), as required by the Illinois Statutes Local Government Local Records Act (50 ILCS 205).

According to the Illinois Local Government Local Records Act, the information required by the Section (including a booking photo, the time of arrest, or the time and date that the individual was received and discharged from custody of the arresting agency) must be made available to the news media for inspection and copying as soon as practicable, but in no event shall the time period exceed 72 hours from the arrest.
