manuel cervantes estudio launched its most recent monograph by the publisher TC cuadernos, which brings together the mexican studio’s work from the last 10 years. it’s a book that highlights the dialogue of the local and the modern that has been presented for a long time in mexican architecture either as tension or as a balance. understanding architecture as a strategy is what achieves projects that really work on all things, that have to do with the physical site, social and economic needs, and that meet specific needs of each work.

the launch of TC cuadernos seeks to show an introspective look about what the manuel cervantes workshop has thought and built during the last 10 years. this monograph collects in almost 300 pages the studio’s main works between 2011 and 2021, covering single-family homes and other larger-scale typologies. the book encloses texts, photographs, drawings, and a conversation with the architect’s colleague macias peredo, which allows us to dive deeper into the origins of their thinking through their experiences and relationships.

cervantes believes that architecture, in its complexity and sophistication, is not so much in the imported novel materials, but in how to work, propose and be creative with what you have at hand. weaving ties and the place is not only a physical context but also its people, the food, culture. from the concepts of subsoil, crust, and sky, the designer shapes his buildings creating spaces that are often nothing more than the result of a construction process where the structural and material design define the final atmosphere of the project.

‘to build a wall or a column, we like to imagine not only the tectonics but the sensation that touching them, surrounding them, seeing them and even smelling them will create because wood reminds us of the forest and steel more of the city, the land of the country. and the partition to a town; however, all these materials are actors in a movie that we will experience later, a montage to celebrate life’ manuel cervantes céspedes, founder of manuel cervantes estudio. his philosophy of architectural work is based on designing spaces for human endeavor and creating atmospheres to experience spaces in a sensorial way. from this, the studio designs projects of different types such as transportation, residential, social, tourist, commercial, mixed-use, and urban housing.

the philosophy of the office is based on the premise of developing contemporary architecture that is aware of the social, cultural, economic, and environmental context, in order to provide people with comprehensive solutions, regardless of the scale of the projects. their commitment to architecture is based on the understanding that human beings develop in it and that’s why they pay great attention to the smallest detail and have a team of specialists from different areas of design to complete the work.
