ESPN anchor Kenny Mayne closed out his final “SportsCenter” show with a playful “f–k you” to Aaron Rodgers.
Early Tuesday morning, Mayne ended his interview with Rodgers by referencing a moment from a previous conversation he had with the NFL’s reigning MVP.
“Last time we did an interview together, you told me to go heavy in the cryptocurrency game,” Mayne said, noting that he went ahead and listened to Rodgers’ advice. But luck wasn’t on his side.
“We’re down 40 percent, then I lost my job, Gretchen just wants a new comforter. F–k you, Aaron Rodgers,” said Mayne, true to form.
Mayne, who was with ESPN for 27 years, walked off set after his mic-drop comment as Rodgers laughed.
“I love you, Ken,” the quarterback said.
Earlier in the interview, Mayne spoke with Rodgers about his potential divorce from the Packers. It was Rodgers’ first time speaking out about the situation since he made it clear he wants out of Green Bay.
While Rodgers didn’t divulge any specifics about his future, he did explain that his issues in Green Bay are about the culture.
“With my situation, look, it’s never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan [Love],” Rodgers said about Green Bay’s decision to select the quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. The situation is widely believed to have kick-started the Rodgers-Packers rift.
“It’s just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go. It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things the right way.”
