Under Secretary for Food & Health Dr Chui Tak-yi today called on the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible, as the pandemic situation in various places continues to fluctuate and mutant strains are still rampant.

At a press briefing this afternoon, Dr Chui said the Government has followed science-based recommendations in launching the vaccination programme and the use of the two types of vaccines.

“Since the launch of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, I think the Government has emphasised time and again that we are launching the programme based on scientific information.

“So we rely on the recommendation of the Advisory Panel on COVID-19 Vaccines and also the joint scientific committee on screening all the information available in the literature, on research and also information provided by the manufacturers.

“We have to have confidence and we would like to convince the public to have confidence in the scientific data.

“And the Government is also using the scientific data to convince the public to get the COVID-19 vaccines as soon as possible.”

He added that the Government will issue an update on the monitoring of COVID-19 vaccinations in the form of a press release every Wednesday so the public will have the latest information.
