1. Participate in Asian Restaurant Week

There are so many great restaurants to patronize during our city’s first Asian Restaurant Week (May 16-22). Just a few that are on my list: Asian Fusion, Sze Chuan and Sweet Basil.
2. Get Dinner at Aria

I haven’t been to Aria at Saint Kate the Arts Hotel since the before times, so I sure am glad to see the restaurant reopened last week. Right now, the homestyle American food restaurant is only open for dinner service. While you’re there, you may want to check out the hotel’s new live music schedule. They have performances every night of the week.
3. Order the Reuben at McBob’s

On Sunday I met a friend who was heading to the Brewers game for brunch at McBob’s, 4919 W. North Ave., and while I know this may not exactly be a revelation to most Milwaukeeans, the reuben at this fine establishment is excellent. Generous chunks of corned beef, just the right amount of dressing, good kraut, nicely buttered rye (I went with the marble and was not disappointed). Bonus points for the super tasty American fries accompanying, and a couple two tree pints of Guinness as well.
4. Grab a Drink at Black Husky Brewing

I got to catch up with friends over the weekend at Black Husky Brewing. I forgot how nice it can be to sit outside on a patio when the weather’s nice and just kinda hang out, drinking and people-watching. Here’s hoping that I’ll have many more chances to do the same thing this summer!
5. Watch “The Terror”

This show slid under the radar in 2018, but it really shouldn’t have. The horror/adventure is based on the real-life tragedy of the HMS Terror, which became icebound in the arctic in 1845, leading to the death of the sailors. The cast, led by the consistently great Jared Harris (check him out in Chernobyl too), brings home the desperation of the extreme circumstances. You get top-notch character drama alongside thrilling horror set pieces, and the atmosphere is pitch-perfect. There are some supernatural elements, but the real horror is the cold and the barren, arctic icescapes.
