Deer Park Police and firefighter/paramedics from Lake Zurich responded about 10:50 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021 to a report of an outdoor gas leak at a house fire in the block of 21000 Old Farm Road in Deer Park.
While firefighters were responding, the Lake Zurich 911 Center informed units that the natural gas had ignited next to a home. Fire command upgraded the response to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, fire crews noted flames from an excavation hole with flame impingement to the side of the house. Firefighters deployed a hose line and applied water to the siding of the house.
Fire crews also assisted NICOR with digging a trench to cut off the natural gas supply. Preliminary investigation indicates the homeowner was digging in the area of the natural gas line before the ignition of the natural gas. Damage to the home was minimal with no damage estimate available at press time.
There were no reports of any civilian or firefighter injuries, according to Lake Zurich Fire Department
Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Barrington, Barrington-Countryside, Deerfield, Carpentersville, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, Mundelein, and Wauconda were also assigned to assist Lake Zurich Fire Department.
The fire was extinguished by 12:10 p.m. and release of mutual aid firefighters began about 12:15 p.m.
