A New Look for Mount Mary’s Fashion Show

This show premiers on Friday.

For more than 50 years, Mount Mary students have enjoyed the schools’s annual fashion show, CREO (from the Latin word for make or create). “It’s a huge affair,” Fashion Department Chair Ashley Brooks says. “So many students are involved.”

The show was canceled last year, but Mount Mary faculty members, working closely with design and merchandising students, have devised a way to bring it back this year in a new format. Instead of inviting the local community to attend an in-person runway show featuring dozens of ensembles, they’ll be creating and releasing a short film spotlighting student work.

“It’s still super exciting,” fashion merchandising student Chelsea Kern says of the video, which premieres on May 14. “It’s something that can be seen over and over again.”

“We can explore more opportunities and really push the limits,” design student Lillian Koch adds. “We’re allowing ourselves to be more creative.”

Kern and Koch, both seniors, are working alongside half a dozen other classmates to oversee just about every aspect of the video, from its design to its marketing. They’ve also invited students who graduated last year to participate as well. So Mount Mary students past and present will once again be able to showcase their work, in a format that has the potential to reach a wider audience of fashionistas.
