Your Mother’s Day Gift Guide

From potted plants to buzzy new books, here’s our recommendations for Mother’s Day this year.

LET’S BE HONEST. Your mom deserves a lot more than a card and a hug this Mother’s Day (though those are nice, too). Why not get her one of the below items, all available from local shops?

1. Gemstone Stud Earrings

$25 | A TRIO

This Third Ward Jewelry boutique is well-known for its luxe, diamond rings. But it also stocks affordable earrings made from raw gemstones. And you can choose gems to match your mom’s birth month.

2. A Potted Plant

VARIOUS PRICES | MARANTA PLANT SHOP

Scientific studies prove that people feel better around plants: they purify the air and trigger the release of endorphins. And there are so many beautiful varieties at this new(ish) boutique to choose from that you’ll easily be able to find something that your mom will love.

3. Paint with Mom at Home

$14-36 | SPLASH STUDIO

This sip and paint studio is offering two virtual class options for Mother’s Day. The first is a live painting session that will take place remotely: it costs $36 and comes with all the materials (canvas, paint, aprons) you’ll need to create a pretty painting of May flowers. The second option, $14-18, is an on-demand kit that you and your mom can access whenever it’s most convenient for you.

4. Mother’s Day Gift Basket

$110 | ORANGE AND BLUE CO.

The owner of Orange and Blue Co. is a mother herself. So you can bet that these curated gift bags are packed with all sorts of mom-approved goodies. Like a Moglea notepad, a clay resurfacing mask, a Tatine candle, a handwoven market tote, a Wit and Co. greeting card and more!

5. At the End of the World, Turn Left

$24 | BOSWELL BOOKS

Zhanna Slor, local author of the critically acclaimed novel At the End of the World, Turn Left, will be taking part in a free Zoom reading and discussion on May 10. Why not pick up copies of the book for you and your mom, and then agree to tune into the reading (which is being co-hosted by Boswell Books and the Shorewood Public Library) together?

6. Box of 12 Assorted Truffles

$25.50 | INDULGENCE CHOCOLATIERS

The truffles made by the local chocolatiers over at Indulgence are almost too pretty to eat. Or they would be, anyway, if they were just a little less delicious. This particular box comes with an assortment of interesting flavor combinations like balsamic fig, pistachio cardamom, Thai peanut butter and more.
