Fatal House Fire on Hale St Near Adams St, Marengo

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Marengo responded about 4:33 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 to a report of a house fire in the block of 400 North Hale Street in Marengo.

Firefighters on arrival discovered flames through the roof of a 2-story home. One person was found dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as Nicholas Andersen of Marengo, according to the McHenry County Coroner Michael Rein.

A MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm #5-1180 was activated at 5:06 p.m. to request additional firefighting resources to the scene.

Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Belvidere, Boone County, Genoa-Kingston, Harvard, Huntley, and Woodstock were assigned mutual aid to the scene.

Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Crystal Lake, Boone County, and Genoa-Kingston were assigned mutual aid to stand by at the Marengo fire station.

The fire was declared under control about 6:00 p.m., and the fire box alarm was struck out by 6:39 a.m.

The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal responded to the scene to investigate the fire.
