LAWAS: Police have arrested an unemployed woman for suspected drug possession and abuse at Kampung Baru Sundar, Sundar Road, here yesterday.

Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) head Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid said in a statement that they also seized crystalised substance believed to be syabu weighing 5.5 grammes worth about RM1,200 from the suspect.

Hasnir said that the 24-year-old suspect from Taman Desaria, Sipitang, Sabah was detained by a team of policeman in a raid at a hut at 10am following a public tip-off.

He said initially, police failed to find any drugs when they inspected her, he said.

“The team then interrogated the suspect and as a result the suspect handed over her black purse.

“They checked the purse and found three transparent packets containing the substance,” he said.

Hasnir said the suspect was then taken to the NCID’s office for further action.

The suspect, although having no previous criminal records, was tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for drug abuse.
