Vaccination case reported

April 26, 2021

The Department of Health said as of 4pm today, in the past 24 hours it received a report from the Hospital Authority of a death case with suspected serious adverse event following COVID-19 vaccination.

The case involved a 63-year-old man with a history of hyperlipidaemia.

He was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital’s accident and emergency department after having a seizure and losing consciousness at home early this morning. Resuscitation at the hospital was performed but in vain and he passed away the same morning.

The man received his second dose of the Sinovac vaccine at Kowloon Hospital on April 16 and there was no record of him feeling unwell during observation there.

The department contacted the authority to obtain further information and will pass the case to the Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following COVID-19 Immunisation for causality assessment.

So far, there is no clinical evidence to indicate that the event was caused by the vaccine, it added.
