Wright’s Greenhouse in Beatty open for the season

Apr 21, 2021 | 4:00 PM

Wright’s Greenhouse in Beatty is open for the season.

Owner and Operator Angie Bragg said they opened the doors on Monday and the staff are excited and ready for another busy year.

“People are itching to get their plants and it is amazing how many are already coming through the door,” Bragg said.

This will be the first season for Wrights without their Melfort location but they are still supplying plants to George Home Hardware.

“We will still be loading up the trucks and sending them to Melfort but we do anticipate being a bit busier here at the farm than we have been in the past,” Bragg said.

Last year seemed to be busier in general with people being home due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that trend will most likely continue, according to Bragg.

“I think those that tried gardening last year…some enjoyed it and some failed,” Bragg said. “I’m hoping the ones that figured they failed will try again.”

The only restrictions that have changed since last season is that masks are mandatory in the greenhouse.

The greenhouse is operating Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until May 1 when the hours will expand to Sunday to Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Ideally, planting time is still after the long weekend but I do know that people are anxious to get out in their yards and to buy their plants,” Bragg said.

She added that there is no urgency to get your plants purchased either.

“We have nine greenhouses and eight are full right now,” Bragg said. “With the warm weather, everything is so beautiful and flourishing,”

Tips for first time gardeners are to start small and not get overwhelmed by starting big. Bragg also suggested gardening in containers rather than the ground which is just as easy.

Wrights Greenhouse is located at the corner of Highway 368 and Highway 3 across from Beatty.

The annual customer appreciation day will not be happening this year due to public health restrictions in place.
