The Flash, the eagerly awaited new DC movie that will see the return of the big screen speedster, officially kicked off its production today with an announcement from director Andy Muschietti and a first look at its energetic new logo.

DC fans have been hearing about the upcoming Flash movie for a while, with the hype increasing considerably after last year’s DC FanDome, which included a tease for the movie featuring Muschietti and star Ezra Miller, who debuted in the role in 2017’s Justice League (after brief cameos in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad). That panel also gave us our first look at the Flash’s updated suit, which is much sleeker than the suit seen in Justice League and in director Zack Snyder’s recent HBO Max director’s cut. Those concept images were all that had been released from the movie until this morning, when Muschietti shared the new motion logo on his Instagram.

With production now starting, fans can expect to see more from The Flash in the months ahead as we get closer to the movie’s 2022 release date. Along with Miller, the film stars Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, plus Sasha Calle making her debut as Supergirl and both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as Batman. The screenplay is written by Christina Hodson, returning to the world of DC films after scripting Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). There’s not much known about the story at this point, though we’ve been told it’ll dive into some of the Flash’s more cosmic abilities, with Hodson promising at DC FanDome that “the cinematic DC Multiverse is going to be born out of this movie.”
