Onni Proposes 2,600+ Apartments for Goose Island

Towers up to 56 stories tall could rise on the southern end of Goose Island under Onni Group’s proposal that would include a hotel, office space and nearly 2,700 apartments. Crain’s Chicago Business reported that the Vancouver-based developer recently unveiled its plans for an eight-acre parcel on Goose Island, marking a major step in the area’s transformation from an industrial zone into a bustling mixed-use neighborhood.

Called Halsted Point, the project could be the first residential development on Goose Island since the city relaxed zoning rules along the Chicago River’s North Branch in 2017 to open the area to non-industrial uses.

“Onni is a long-term investor and community builder, and while the pandemic has changed the way we all live and work, we feel confident that our well-designed communities like Halsted Point will continue our ongoing success in world-class cities like Chicago,” Onni said in a statement.
