HK reports 17 COVID-19 cases

April 16, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 17 additional COVID-19 cases, six of which are locally transmitted and epidemiologically linked with local cases.

The new local cases involve four women and two men aged between 14 and 64. Five of them live in Meadowlands in Yuen Long while one lives in Block 3 of Oi Fai House, Yau Oi Estate in Tuen Mun.

Meanwhile, seven buildings, including Block 11, Meadowlands in Yuen Long, with confirmed cases announced today, along with a company and a school, are now included in the compulsory testing notice.

The Government will set up mobile specimen collection stations for people subject to compulsory testing. Another eight mobile stations will extend their services.

Additionally, the Government decided to make a restriction-testing declaration for Parkes Building at 17-23 Parkes Street, Jordan, where a preliminary positive case was recorded today.

The Government considered that the risk of infection in the relevant area is likely higher than usual, as the preliminary test result involved a mutant strain and sub-divided units are common in the relatively old building.

The declaration for the restricted area took effect from 11.30pm. People in the area subject to compulsory testing will need to be tested by 2.30am.

They will be arranged to undergo a nucleic acid test at temporary specimen collection stations set up there, where staff will collect samples through combined nasal and throat swabs.

The Government will arrange door-to-door specimen collection for people with impaired mobility and seniors.

It aims to finish the exercise by about 8am tomorrow.

Among the imported cases, five of them arrived from Indonesia, while the others are from the Philippines, India, Pakistan and France.

A total of 138 cases have been recorded in the past 14 days, including 30 local ones, of which seven have unknown infection sources.
