Milwaukee’s hometown contestant Anna Grace will continue her journey on “The Voice” after winning this week’s battle round.
A little background: During the auditions, all four of this year’s cast of coaches were begging for Grace to join their team after her rendition of “my future” by Billie Eilish. She chose Kelly Clarkson, and now you’re all caught up.
This week, Clarkson paired Grace with another singer, Ainae, to take on Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m Good.” The song gave both contestants moments to shine, which left coaches split on who should continue to the next round.
“Anna, I love how you kind of sing with your hands,” Nick Jonas said about the performance. “You direct the notes.”
Clarkson was not there to judge the battle because she was not feeling well and the show has tight coronavirus restrictions. Kelsea Ballerini filled in for her, though she made sure the contestants knew that Clarkson was watching and involved in the decision, too.
“I picked Anna, because Anna is pushing herself and I know she can take notes,” Ballerini said. “I’m excited to see her growth in the rest of the show.”
Grace’s next step will be to compete in the show’s knock-out round. For this she will be again paired with another contestant, but this time she will sing solo. If she makes it through the knockouts, Grace will compete in the live competition, which is when viewers will vote.
“I can’t believe I’m still on Team Kelly,” Grace said. “I can’t wait to sing in the knockouts for her.”
