Arizona AG Mark Brnovich doubles down on VP Kamala Harris border invite

Arizona’s attorney general is reiterating his plea for Vice President Kamala Harris to tour his state’s section of the US border as the migrant crisis continues to overwhelm the region.

Speaking to Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich again urged Harris to come and see the situation for herself.

“Well, I think it’s important for federal officials to actually come to the states to see and hear and feel what’s actually happening on the ground,” he said, noting that then-candidate Harris previously argued on the campaign trail about “the need to get out” and see the crisis.

Brnovich first invited Harris on April 2, but has still received no response.

A spokesperson for Harris did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment on whether she intended to respond or accept the invite.

Speaking to Fox News last Thursday, the state’s top law enforcement officer called the lack of communication from the Biden administration “disappointing” while maintaining that the invite still stood.

Harris, said Brnovich, needed to “look into the eyes of people being smuggled across the border, being exploited by the cartels and realize this is a humanitarian crisis on so many levels.”

“It’s not fair to the migrants that think they’re being promised things, it’s not fair to the people — the hard-working taxpayers of this country who are going to have to subsidize and pay for health care and child care and other social services for these migrants,” he continued.

It’s also not fair, he argued, to anyone in the US when “you have literally criminals coming into this country.”

In a separate interview later Thursday, Brnovich told “The Faulkner Focus” that the border isn’t an issue of “right versus left,” but rather an issue of “right versus wrong.”

“This may be in our front yard today but it will be in everyone’s backyard tomorrow.”

The Biden administration’s undoing of former President Donald Trump’s border policies has prompted a flood of Central American and Mexican illegal migrants at the US border, including thousands of unescorted children.

Central Americans looking for refuge from the Northern Triangle countries — El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala — have taken these policy moves, as well as the overwhelmingly more welcoming tone from Democrats, as a sign that President Biden is inviting them to cross the border.

Insisting that the border was not facing a crisis, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in early March that the problems the agency faced should be blamed on the previous administration.

The data, however, overwhelmingly shows that migrants were flooding the border because they believed Biden would welcome them with open arms.

Late last month, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador blamed the new president for the crisis, arguing that the “expectations” he set left migrants with the perception that they would be let into the US.

As the crisis heated up, Biden tapped his vice president to address the diplomatic measures related to its “root causes.”

Top GOP lawmakers have headed to the border in the meantime, with many returning with harrowing footage.

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), the No. 2 House Republican, posted a video to Twitter early Friday showing groups of migrants being directed to processing centers in the middle of the night — directly behind where he was standing.

“As we’re here at the McAllen facility, you just saw a large number of kids just come running across the border,” Scalise said. “Here they are right here, just came into the country illegally, ran across, just got apprehended by Border Patrol agents.”

“This is out of control. It’s the middle of the night. We’ve seen dozens of children flow freely across the border in just the past few minutes,” he wrote in his tweet alongside the video.

“This is the reality of Joe Biden’s disastrous amnesty agenda.”
