How to create a poll on Facebook

Creating your Facebook Poll

Whether on your desktop computer or a mobile device, access Facebook, then navigate to the Groups tab. Here, you will see a list of all the groups you belong to on the social network. It is important to note that Facebook Polls can only be created within groups; you cannot post a poll directly to your main Facebook feed. Once within the Groups tab, select the group in which you want to publish the poll, then follow these steps:

Step 1: Click on the gray box that says Write Something; this is the same place you would usually click to post to your group.

Step 2: When the window pops up, select the Poll option in the list provided. If the Poll option is not immediately shown, click the three horizontal dots in the lower-right corner of the window to reveal it.

Step 3: At the top of the window, where it says Write Something, enter your poll question.

Step 4: Next, fill in the available options for the poll. You can remove an option by clicking the X button to the right of the text field, or you can add one by clicking the + Add Option button.

Step 5: If desired, press the Poll Options button to access additional features, such as the ability to allow or disallow choosing multiple answers and the ability to enable others to add their own poll options.

Step 6: When ready to post the poll, click the Post button at the bottom of the window.

Editing or deleting your Facebook Poll

Just as you can with a regular Facebook post, you can choose to edit your poll or even delete it entirely once posted. Navigate to the group where your poll is located and click the three horizontal dots at the post’s top-right corner. Now you can choose to Edit or Delete the post as usual. Additionally, you can turn off any further notifications about the poll or disable others’ ability to leave comments.

Adding a poll to Facebook Stories

Did you know you can also create a poll within your Facebook Stories? If you want to ask your friends a question on Facebook, this is a great way to get the job done. Just remember, a Facebook Stories post is fleeting, so it won’t be around forever. If you want to add a poll to your Facebook Story, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Facebook and, at the top of the News Feed, tap the + Add to Story button.

Step 2: Take a photo or video as you usually would, by tapping the Shutter button. Then, when the preview is shown, click the Stickers button in the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 3: Tap the Poll button to create a poll.

Step 4: Type your question, then add two poll options if you want to customize them beyond the default Yes and No selections.

Step 5: Tap Done in the top-right corner.

Step 6: Finally, click Share to Story to share your new poll on Facebook.
