With 768 stores as of January – and planning to add about 40 a year – Kwik Trips are everywhere that’s anywhere. A Wisconsin small town, from Redgranite to Black Earth to Whitehall, isn’t small anymore when it gets one. While Minnesota and Iowa get to share in the love, Kwik Trip is a Wisconsin thing: It’s based in La Crosse and has a huge food plant and distribution hub there where almost all of its stuff is baked, cooked or bottled.
But what seals the deal for perhaps its biggest fan is a friendly vibe that feels natural, not forced. Mike Testa, who created the Kwik Trip Enthusiast Club on Facebook, says the neighborly atmosphere rubs off on customers, too. Testa, a Wauwatosa resident who drives all over the state for work, has seen folks pay for the gas and food of a stranger who looked like they were having a bad day.
“See ya next time,” indeed.
