Man Critically Injured, Struck by Chevy Tahoe on Route 25 Near the Fabyan Windmill in Geneva

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Geneva, Illinois responded about 8:12 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2021 to the block of 1500 Crissey Avenue (Route 25) in Geneva to a report that a man riding a skateboard was hit by a car. Upon arrival police, firefighters and paramedics discovered a 23-year-old Batavia man injured and unresponsive with bystander CPR underway. Paramedics took over care for the victim with Advanced Life Support. The man was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva with life-threatening injuries.




Multiple witnesses told police the man was riding south on a skateboard in the Route 25 roadway when the crash occurred. The initial police investigation indicated that a 73-year-old Batavia man was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on Route 25 when he accidentally struck the victim in an area just north of the Fabyan Windmill. The Batavia man later told police that he did not see the skateboarder due to darkness. Sunset was 7:07 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2021 in Batavia with complete darkness at 8:12 p.m.

The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was not injured in the crash, is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation, according to the Geneva Police Department. Initially no charges were filed in the case, which is under investigation by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Geneva Police Department. Route 25 near the crash scene is a 2-lane highway with a very narrow soft shoulder and sometimes no shoulder. The Speed Limit is 50 MPH according to a Google Maps Street View captured June 2019.
