Indian Fare to Join Crossroads Collective

Crossroads Collective is bringing in a new Indian cafe.

This spring, the food hall Crossroads Collective will welcome an Indian cafe. Beginning April 8, Ruta’s will serve soups, sandwiches, bowls and baked goods, many with a “lively, fresh, Indian twist,” according to the press release detailing the new counter-service space. It will replace Frida, which closed on March 14.

Owner Ruta Kahate’s background includes running six cafes in Goa, India. Her business partner in the Milwaukee venture is her husband, Neville Desouza. They most recently lived in Oakland, California.

“Overall our food is bright, fresh, and healthful. It’s a bit different than the Indian food you’re familiar with, but you’ll recognize the Indian flavors. We keep it all light and wholesome, so it looks beautiful, tastes good, and is also good for you,” says Ruta. “It’s my modern touch on an ancient cuisine, guided by Ayurvedic principles and refined over the years in India and California.”

The menu will also include sweets and vegan options.
