The nonprofit behind Sag Harbor’s Bay Street Theater wants to install a tent for its productions in a parking lot outside of a 7-Eleven.

The Friends of Bay Street said it’s the only way the theater can have a summer season, according to the Southampton Press. But some village board members are less than enthusiastic about the idea, citing concerns that the move would make it hard for 7-Eleven and other businesses at Water Street Shops to operate.

The latest spat adds to the tension that has been building between the Friends of Bay Street and village officials.

The nonprofit bought the Water Street Shops property last year with plans to build a new theater there.

Its members also want to buy a separate parking lot nearby, but village officials recently withdrew their support for the purchase because it wants to lease the lot itself.
