Vaccination notification system set

February 26, 2021

Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan today said the Department of Health has launched a notification system for healthcare professionals to register their patients’ adverse events after receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.

Prof Chan, together with Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip, visited the Community Vaccination Centre in the Central Library’s Exhibition Gallery to inspect the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme’s first-day operation this morning.

She explained that the programme’s participants will be observed at the vaccination centre for 30 minutes after getting the jabs.

“If there are any side effects or people feel unwell, healthcare professionals on site will take care of the situation.

“Normally, if you look at the product information, there are some very common side effects, for example, there is some pain at the injection site, or sometimes people will feel a bit tired. These are very common and transient, therefore they will go away very soon.”

If any of the participants feel unwell, they should consult their doctors, Prof Chan added.

“If there is anything that is of adverse event that healthcare professionals or doctors feel that it needs to be notified, we have already started a notification system by the Department of Health to register all the adverse events after vaccination.”

Prof Chan revealed that of the more than 500 people who have been vaccinated so far, no abnormal reaction reports have been received.

Additionally, Director of Health Dr Constance Chan and a number of the department’s service heads received their COVID-19 jabs at the vaccination centre this morning.

Prof Chan called on members of priority groups to get vaccinated early to protect themselves and others.
