According to a tweet from the LA County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred just after 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

"The vehicle sustained major damage," the statement says, but it does not reveal how the car crash happened.

Firefighters and paramedics had to use the "jaws of life" to get Woods out of the wrecked vehicle before he was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

The statement did not reveal any information regarding the severity of the golfer's injuries.

Woods was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to the statement.

Officers from the LA County Sheriff's Department are now investigating the crash.
