Two Potbelly Pigs Killed in Small Barn Fire on Route 59 Near Lakeview Drive in Lake Villa Township

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Lake Villa FPD firefighters responded about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2021 to a report of a fire in a small barn in the block of 39200 North Route 59.

On arrival firefighters discovered smoke coming from a small 10×12 square foot barn or shed that was about 1,000 feet toward the back of the property. The owner of the property had already fought the fire, and firefighters finished extinguishing the fire.

Two potbelly pigs died during the fire in the barn.




Firefighters advanced the distance of 1,000 feet in deep snow and used an ATV equipped with water to fight the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. An occupied house, a vacant house, and the small barn are located on the property. The small barn was located near the vacant house.

Route 59 near the fire scene was closed for about an hour while firefighters extinguished the fire.
