People should remain vigilant despite the low double-digit number of COVID-19 cases registered for two consecutive days in Hong Kong, Under Secretary for Food & Health Dr Chui Tak-yi said today.

Dr Chui made the remarks at a press briefing where he announced that 12 additional COVID-19 cases are being investigated for the second day in a row.

“The number of newly confirmed COVID-19 local cases has remained a low double-digit number for a while. But of course the situation may always change. This status may be due to the combined effort of various policies and measures to combat the COVID-19 situation, and also due to the co-operation of the public in reducing activities that may pose additional risks for transmission.”

Dr Chui added that the local epidemic situation could change and cautioned people not to lower their guard in the fight to curb the spread of the virus.

“Of course the situation may change at any time. So I think it’s also the right moment to call for the co-operation of the public to continue social distancing throughout this period so that we can keep a persistently low new number of confirmed cases each day, so that we have more confidence in relaxing the various social distancing measures.”
