Former WWE Superstar Rusty Brooks Passes Away

Former WWE Superstar Rusty Brooks has passed away at the age of 63. No official word yet on the exact cause of death, but he had been suffering from numerous health issues. He was primarily used as an enhancement talent for the company back in the 80’s. Brooks began his wrestling career in the early 80’s and was trained by Boris Malenko and Jim Isler.

He debuted with WWA (World Wrestling Association) by defeating Steve Brody on Halloween night in 1982. He would go on to sign with WWE in 1984 as a enhancement talent. He wrestled Andre the Giant, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Junkyard Dog and “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan. He also teamed with Steve Lombardi (aka, The Brooklyn Brawler) and faced The British Bulldogs in numerous tag matches during the 80’s.

He left WWE in 1985 and signed with IWCCW under the gimmick “Super Duper Mario”. After a stint there, he signed with Global Championship Wrestling and won the GCW Tag Team Championships with Jumbo Barretta. He would go on to work with the “Future of Wrestling” in the 90’s through the early 2000’s. He won the FOW Hardcore and World Heavyweight Championship prior to retiring from wrestling in 2002.

During his wrestling career and during his retirement, Brooks opened up a wrestling school called, “Rusty Brooks Pro-Wrestling Academy”, where he would train the likes of Gangrel, Luna Vachon, Norman Smiley, MVP and Konnor (The Ascension).
