The Hospital Authority today said a United Christian Hospital nurse needs to undergo quarantine as she did not wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) while assisting in collecting a COVID-19 patient's specimen.

The authority noted that a 27-year-old man was admitted to the hospital's accident and emergency department (AED) yesterday due to a fever. He was arranged to undergo an admission screening COVID-19 test and the result was positive.

The patient was transferred to the isolation ward and his condition is stable.

The hospital's infection control team conducted contact tracing and no patient was identified as a close contact.

A nurse who did not put on full PPE while assisting in nasopharyngeal swab specimen collection for the patient for a short period was classified as a close contact and will be put under quarantine.

The authority reminded all healthcare workers to wear full PPE when performing high-risk medical procedures.

It has also arranged thorough cleaning and disinfection for the hospital's AED areas.
