Donating £1 From Every Webshop Order To Charity

The Coronavirus crisis and resulting intermittent lockdowns have brought many changes to our brewery, our business — all of our regular lives and activities.

With real-life interaction often on pause last year, and with it many of the ways that we’d ordinarily fundraise for our charity partners, we began donating £1 for every order placed online to a cause which we felt had relevance that month.

Together, How Much Did We Raise In Total?

Your orders online in 2020 (and attendance to the few events we could host) helped to raise £6,212 for seven different charities last year. These include mental health services, foodbanks, grassroots renovation projects, as well as solutions to problems brought on by the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, your help will have made a positive impact on so many different causes – despite the challenges of an unprecedented year.

Which Organisations Did We Support Through Webshop Donations?

Mind in the City, Hackney & Waltham Forest
Part of the East London community since 1981, MCHWF aims to empower people with experience of mental ill health, through the delivery of innovative, collaborative services to support peoples mental and physical wellbeing, resilience and recovery in the boroughs the charity serves.

The Trussell Trust
A nationwide network of food banks providing emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaigners for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

In 2019/20, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 1,900,122 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis. Of these, 720,504 went to children.

Black Minds Matter UK
A charitable organisation providing free 12 week courses of therapy to Black individuals and families in the UK, by professional Black therapists. Black Minds Matter UK wants to make mental health topics more relevant and accessible for the Black community.

Dalston Eastern Curve Garden
A vital community green space, based in the heart of Dalston, that risks closure due to the ongoing Coronavirus lockdowns. You can support their Crowdfunding campaign here.

Hackney Bumps
A grassroots community project started during lockdown that is regenerating a much-loved but underfunded skatepark for the local community.

WeMakeEvents
An international movement to highlight that the live events sector urgently needs support from local governments to survive the Coronavirus crisis.

Hackney Foodbank
Part of the Trussel Trust’s nation-wide network of foodbanks, Hackney Foodbank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis.

Case Study #1: How Do Your Donations Help Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest?

Rianna Comer, Business Development Officer at Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest, lets us know how:

“The last year has been particularly tough on people’s mental health. Charities have taken a real hit, too, as many fundraising events have been cancelled, alongside people having less money to support the causes close to them. We’ve seen an increase in the demand on our services, which is only set to increase, as rates of depression have doubled during the pandemic.

“The money raised by Five Points goes directly to helping fund vital support services in the community, providing a lifeline to those with mental health problems, as well as safeguarding our future.

“Just £25 is enough to support a low-income client with serious mental health issues to attend a difficult emotions group – that’s around 100 individuals who could be supported with the funds raised by Five Points. When you put things into perspective, it’s clear to see the positive impact this will have on the surrounding community.”

Case Study #2: How did the community – and “a big old lockdown” – support Hackney Bumps?

Nick Tombs, Founder of Hackney Bumps, lets us know how:

“In the two years that we have been working on Hackney Bumps, we have received very little support from local businesses to be totally honest. Which is why we were so stoked when Five Points got in touch. Donations like theirs and those from the local and skate communities are so important. Without them, a big old lockdown and a host of volunteers, we would still be back at square one.

Regenerating the skatepark has had a positive impact on the local area. The Bumps has become a focal point for the community again, especially in these bleak times. But we’re not done yet, we will be building again in the Spring so look out for that! Huge thanks to the Five Points team for their support! Roll on Summer….”

Looking ahead to 2021…

This year, we will continue our commitment to being a responsible business that helps to raise funds and awareness for causes in our community.

We will continue to donate £1 per order on our webshop, and we’ll look into ways to build upon this too. We’d like to add an option for you to match our donation at checkout, to help us fundraise more or charities that matter to you.

And, we can’t wait to get back to hosting events. From our popular Comedy Nights, to our Winter Clothing Drives, we look forward to seeing you for a beer, in real life, in 2021.
