Firefighters and paramedics from Schaumburg responded about 7:49 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021 to a report of a box truck fire following a property damage crash on westbound I-90 at Mile Marker 65 on the right shoulder. Illinois State Police had responded about 7:07 p.m. to a report of the crash with no injuries reported. The crash was a one-vehicle crash, possibly involving the wall, on the left shoulder. The truck was drivable and police were intending to escort the truck off the tollway at Barrington Road about 7:24 p.m. when the truck stalled about 7:28 p.m. The truck driver was able to pull over on the right shoulder before reaching Barrington Road, and still not far from Mile Marker 65.
Several minutes later the truck started on fire, and Illinois State Police on the scene reported a fully-involved truck fire. The first fire crew from Schaumburg reported a fully-involved truck fire with the crew leading out with a pre-connect by about 7:57 p.m. An extra fire engine was dispatched to the scene. Also, an Elk Grove Village tanker was dispatched to the scene, but was returned.
Firefighters reported most of the fire as in the front cab with a little fire in the back. The truck was hauling furniture. The firefighters made good progress preventing the fire from destroying the back of the truck by 8:09 p.m. Fire command reported the fire was mostly out with firefighters working on hotspots by 8:12 p.m.
The fire was declared out, and firefighters left the scene by 8:20 p.m.
Firefighters witnessed a spinout near the scene and there were several “property damage only” crashes reported in the area.
A black Chrysler was involved in a crash with the wall at I-90 West and Roselle Road that caused heavy front-end damage at about 7:10 p.m.
The driver of a gray Honda Civic crashed into a pole on the entrance ramp to I-90 East from Beverly Road. The pole didn’t get knocked over but the Honda ended up in a ditch about 7:11 p.m.
There was a two-vehicle crash involving a black minivan crash facing the wrong way on westbound I-90 near Roselle Road at 7:40 p.m.
There were also several spinouts, vehicles in ditches, and vehicle crashes with walls last night and overnight across all Illinois tollways and expressways.
