Princess Athena has fun in the snow on ninth birthday

Denmark’s Princess Athena is seen having fun in the Paris snow in the new birthday images released by the Danish Royal House. The four photographs were taken by her mother, Princess Marie, at the family’s home in Paris, where they are currently living.

The family relocated to France for Joachim’s job at the Danish Embassy where he serves as a Military Attaché.

Athena is the youngest grandchild of Queen Margrethe and the late Prince Henrik and is tenth in the line of succession.

She was born on 24 January 2012 at the Copenhagen University Hospital as the second child of Prince Joachim and his second wife, Princess Marie. Athena has three older brothers: Princes Nikolai and Felix through her father’s first marriage to Countess Alexandra and Prince Henrik.

Keeping with Danish royal tradition, her name was not announced until her christening on 20 May 2012 at Møgeltønder Church. Then, her name was revealed as Athena Marguerite Françoise Marie. Her godparents are her maternal uncles, Gregory Grandet and Edouard Cavallier; friends of her parents, Julie Mirabaud, Diego de Lavandeyra and Henriette Steenstrup; and the longterm American girlfriend of her paternal cousin, Carina Axelsson.
