431 new cases, two deaths in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 431 new positive Covid-19 cases, two deaths, and 393 recoveries today, said Sabah official Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“According to the report of Sabah State Health Department, the number of new Covid-19 positive cases in the state today is 431, making the cumulative total to 46,791 cases. Two death cases were recorded in Kalabakan and Beluran,” he said.

“Today, a total of 393 Covid-19 patients have been discharged or recovered from the hospitals, taking the cumulative recovery total to 42,406. A total of 2,794 patients are receiving treatment, namely 847 people in the hospitals and 1,928 in the public Covid Quarantine and Low-risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) and 19 at the Temporary Detention Centre (PTS) or prison.

“The number of Covid-19 patients in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is 87 and 18 people require ventilators,” said the Local Government and Housing Minister and Finance Minister II, here today.

Masidi said Kota Kinabalu recorded 68 Covid-19 positive cases, the highest number in Sabah yesterday, followed by Lahad Datu (46), Keningau (34), Tawau (33), Penampang (32), Putatan (28), Beaufort (25), Papar (24), Sandakan (22), Kota Belud (18), Kudat (14), Kota Marudu (13), Tuaran (11), Kinabatangan (10), Telupid (nine), Sipitang (eight), Ranau (seven), Semporna (five), Pitas (five), Kalabakan (five), Tambunan (four), Kunak (four), Nabawan (three), Kuala Penyu (two) and Tongod (one).

“Today, two new clusters were recorded. Ladang Segama Cluster, Lahad Datu recorded 16 new cases bringing the positive Covid-19 cumulative to 22 cases. The index case was detected through work place screening under the PERKESO program on January 16, 2021. Close contacts have been identified and cause of infection detection is still underway.

“Jalan Segama Cluster, Lahad Datu detected seven new cases, taking the positive Covid-19 cumulative to 20 cases. The index case was detected through symptomatic screening on January 19, 2021. Following the discovery of the case, close contact screening is still being carried out among the staff of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Lahad Datu.”

Masidi said of the 431 positive Covid-19 cases recorded, a total of 308 cases (71.5%) were from close contact screening, 47 cases (10.9%) from symptomatic screening, 53 cases (12.3%) were from new and existing cluster screenings, 15 cases from plantation screening (PERKESO), three cases (0.7%) from screening of students entering the dormitory, and 20 cases (4.6%) were from other categories,” he added.
