61 COVID-19 cases detected

January 22, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) today said it is investigating 61 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 55 are locally transmitted.

Among the local cases, 26 have unknown sources of infection.

Another 29 cases are linked with previous ones, including one from the Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel construction site cluster.

The centre reported that half of the cases with unknown infection sources were found in Yau Tsim Mong District, including five residents of the specified area in Yau Ma Tei to Jordan.

Meanwhile, eight more buildings are now covered by compulsory testing notices.

Two of them are inside the specified area in Yau Ma Tei to Jordan, while two others are in the specified area in Sham Shui Po. The remaining four are The Grandiose Block 3 and Verbena Heights Block 3 in Tseung Kwan O, Healey Building in Yuen Long and Yuet Chui Court in Chai Wan.

The CHP added that new COVID-19 cases were detected at three units of Kensington Plaza at 98 Parkes Street in Jordan, taking the number of cases in that building to 10.

A total of five units have been affected so far, four of which face the same direction.

The centre inspected the building with relevant government departments and experts this afternoon to investigate the virus transmission route.

Taking into account expert opinions, the CHP decided to carry out prudent measures on infection control before relevant departments completed their inspection of the building's pipes.

The Department of Health will issue quarantine orders to all asymptomatic residents of the building's C units on all floors and transfer them to quarantine centres, while symptomatic residents will be sent to hospital for treatment.
