What SC told farm unions, Delhi Police: Key points
NEW DELHI: The Supreme court on Wednesday expressed its displeasure to the farm unions and critics over aspersions cast on members of committee appointed by it to resolve impasse over farm laws and said it has not given any adjudicating authority to the panel.
On the issue pertaining to the committee, a bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said it had appointed experts in the panel as the judges are not experts on the subject.

Meanwhile, the issue of seeking an injunction against the proposed tractor rally on January 26 by farmers protesting against the new farms laws is in “executive domain”, the apex court said. The Centre withdrew its plea seeking an injunction against such a mark on Jan 26.
Below are the apex court's top quotes from the hearing:

  • You are casting aspersions on someone in the committee because he has expressed views on farm laws
  • How do you say the members of the committee are biased and hence disqualified? Do the members have any adjudication power to make them biased?
  • We have appointed experts in the committee as we are not experts
  • No one has any right to call the experts in the committee biased or prejudiced

Delhi Police to decide on farmers' R-Day parade, says SC

  • We have told you that we will not issue any direction. It is a police matter
  • We will allow you to withdraw. You are the authority and you have to deal with it. It is not for the court to pass orders

  • Suppose, we uphold the law then you protest. You counsel them properly.
