Creative students often search for scholarship opportunities. It can be challenging to find legitimate scholarships, but when students put in the time and legwork, it is possible to apply for an array of exciting awards.
These scholarships will help students attend college with fewer student loans, helping to secure their future after their education is complete.
1. Nancy Etz Scholarship
The Nancy Etz Scholarship is open to students from all fields of study. Students must write an essay with the prompt “Discuss a special attribute or accomplishment that sets you apart.” The award is in the amount of $1,000.
Graduate and undergraduate students may apply, along with current high school seniors with proof of acceptance to a college or university. The deadline for the next academic year is February 1, 2022.
2. The Brett Ratner Grant
This award for filmmakers was founded by Hollywood director Brett Ratner. It provides up to $15,000 in grants for 50 students enrolled in the New York Film Academy. Students need to prove that they have a financial need in order to receive this scholarship. They also need to submit a statement detailing why they wish to attend the New York Film Academy. This program is open to students interested in applying for the MFA degree.
3. Mary Quon Moy Ing Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is intended for students in journalism and new media. Students need to demonstrate the desire to be active journalists. High school seniors, undergraduate students, and full-time graduate students may apply.
4. The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists
These scholarships are available for high school seniors and current college students who want to pursue careers in photojournalism. These students need to exhibit outstanding work in photojournalism. Five $2,500 scholarships are available for technical school or college applicants, and one $2,500 scholarship is available for graduate students.
5. ESA Foundation Computer and Video Game Scholarship
The Entertainment Software Association Foundation sponsors this program. 30 scholarships are awarded each year to minority students and women who are interested in pursuing careers in digital media and video game arts. These scholarships are in the amount of $3,000. Students must be enrolled in accredited schools and maintain a 2.75 GPA to be considered for the scholarship.
6. Judy Corman Memorial Scholarship and Internship
This scholarship and internship are presented by Scholastic, a publisher of children’s books. Students looking for opportunities in new media can work as paid interns at Scholastic in New York City. Students must be permanent residents of Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, or New Jersey. Students must have a 3.2 GPA and declare a major in a field related to communications.
7. National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences – Pacific Southwest Chapter
This scholarship is for students interested in a career in television. It is intended for students in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, San Diego, Palm Springs, or Bakersfield, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $5,000 depending on talent and demonstrated need.
Applicants need to submit a script or video project along with their application. The deadline is May 1st. The winners are announced at the Emmy Awards.
8. Interpublic Group Scholarship and Internship
The Interpublic Group (IPG) Scholarship and Internship is offered through the New York Women in Communications organization. College juniors are eligible to apply if they are focused on advertising or public relations. This scholarship focuses on the needs of ethnically diverse students. The opportunity also includes a spot as a paid intern for the organization. The deadline is January 31, 2021.
9. Carole Fielding Student Grants
These grants provide an opportunity for students to pursue careers in video and film. Students need to be sponsored by a member of the University Film & Video Association. Students need to submit a project proposal, including a budget and supporting documentation. Award amounts vary, but students may receive up to 50 percent of the cost of their production. The deadline is December 15, 2020.
10. Wayne Alexander Memorial Scholarship
The Wayne Alexander Memorial Scholarship is targeted toward students of the University of Central Florida. Students with interests in business marketing, graphic communications, and document management may apply. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and they need not be U.S. citizens. The deadline for this scholarship is May 1, 2021.
