An argument over a parking spot appears to be what sparked a daylight shooting in Hartford this week, police said Friday.

Drashawn Jones, 31, of Main Street was arrested within an hour of the Wednesday afternoon shooting in the city’s South Green neighborhood. The whole thing was captured on camera, Lt. Aaron Boisvert said.

“We believe it was over a parking space,” he said.

It happened about 1:40 p.m. outside 11 Wethersfield Ave. Alerted by the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system, officers went to the scene and found evidence of gunfire, but no victim. They learned a few minutes later that the victim, who had been shot in the hip, had shown up at the hospital in a private vehicle.

Police looked at the video from its extensive camera network and saw the whole thing play out.

It appeared to them that the men were arguing over a parking spot at the intersection, and that as the victim’s car was leaving, Jones fired at it, hitting the driver, Boisvert said.

They also were able to get a description and license plate number of the car Jones was driving, and relay the information to patrol officers, he said.

In less than an hour, an officer spotted the car in the North End, and Jones was taken into custody, Boisvert said.

As for the victim, he said, “He’s going to be OK.”
