The Eagles are currently searching for Doug Pederson’s replacement after making the surprising decision to fire the coach that led the franchise to the Super Bowl just three seasons ago.

Now following that development, things are getting interesting in Philadelphia as Ian Rapoport of NFL Media recently shared that New England Patriots assistant coach Jerod Mayo will be interviewed for the job.

“Patriots inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo is expected to interview for the vacant Eagles head coaching job this week, source said. The first HC interview for Mayo, who plays a key role in NE’s defense,” Rapoport reported on Wednesday.

Mayo has served as New England’s inside linebackers coach for two seasons following a standout playing career for the Patriots. Of course, he played his college football at Tennessee and was a first-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

During his NFL playing career, Mayo made 103 appearances for the Patriots and registered 905 tackles. He won the 2008 Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year and was named as a team captain seven consecutive seasons in New England, helping the Patriots win the Super Bowl in 2014.

Now after playing and working under Bill Belichick for so many years, Mayo may get his first opportunity to run his own team in Philadelphia.
