Why is the UC system asking this question?

Looking at an example of a claimant who is over 18, has learning disability and is on a part time course (that would be compatible with work requirements) – the online claim asks:

Do you get financial support from your parents, a guardian or other supporting adult?

Not sure why the system is asking this – it is not an under 18 year old and it would not fall under unearned income…does anyone have any ideas?

Is it to assess whether they’re not an adult in their own right? ie, parents or other are responsible for them as a dependent young person?

Thanks Daphne. The example was 60 years old - but I am not sure if the UC computer system would pick up on age to filter out that question…
