383 new cases, five deaths in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah registered 383 new Covid-19 cases today bringing the total tally to 38,555 positive cases in the state since the pandemic started.

The latest development is showing an upward trend in the number of new Covid-19 cases in the state.
Out of the total cases today, Penampang registered the highest number with 43 cases followed by Kota Kinabalu (42 cases) and Tawau (34 cases).

Other districts with new cases are Lahad Datu (30), Sandakan (29), Putatan (25), Keningau (25), Papar (24), Pitas (19), Kudat (14), Kota Belud (13), Kinabatangan (10), Kuala Penyu (10), Tambunan (9), Kota Marudu (8), Kalabakan (8), Sipitang (7), Beaufort (6), Kunak (6), Tenom (6), Tuaran (5), Ranau (5), Semporna (3), Tongod (1) and Telupid (1).

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said that 65.3 percent of the new cases resulted from close contacts and 16.7 percent from symptomatic testing.

He also said five people had died from the disease today with two cases in Lahad Datu and one case each in Kota Kinabalu, Kinabatangan and Sandakan.

A new cluster called the “Tombovo cluster” was also detected which brought in 12 new cases.

At the same time, 214 patients have recovered from the illness in Sabah, bringing the total of cured people to 35,744.

“A total of 2,112 patients are being treated, 679 of whom are hospitalised while 1,433 are placed at PKRC,” he said.

Masidi added that 55 patients are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 16 patients requiring breathing assistance.

Meanwhile, 312,112 food baskets have been distributed in Sabah to the target group.
