The 19-year-old Fort Bliss soldier found dead on the Texas base was once sexually assaulted by a soldier and wanted justice, her family said, according to a report.
Asia Graham, whose body was located in her barracks room last Thursday, was attacked in December 2019 — the same month she was stationed at Fort Bliss, relatives told WCNC.
Graham’s mother, Nicole Graham, told the news outlet that Army brass failed to act when she reported the assault to them.
The soldier’s oldest brother, Andrew Koenigsfeld, told the station that his sister “was ready to fight” for justice. “Then that got taken away,” he said.
Army investigators told the family that foul play is not suspected in Asia’s death. But the family said they still want answers.
“She wasn’t supposed to go. It wasn’t her time,” the mother said. “I don’t understand why it was supposed to be her time.”
Asia, a North Carolina native, had been assigned to the 1st Armored Division.
Her brother recalled how she “had a heart of gold” and always aimed to inspire him, his family and others.
