316 new cases, two deaths in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 316 new positive Covid-19 cases and two deaths today, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.

Masidi, who is also Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesperson, said the fatalities were reported in Penampang and Lahad Datu respectively.

He said a new cluster was also reported in Kota Kinabalu, dubbed the Lintas Seraya Cluster with 15 cumulative cases.

“The cluster involves two districts, namely Kota Kinabalu and Penampang.

“The index case was identified through symptomatic screening and investigation found that the cluster was caused by a Christmas celebration dinner at a restaurant in Lintas,” he said in a statement today.

Kota Kinabalu registered the highest daily increase yesterday with 52 cases, followed by Lahad Datu (41), Penampang (40), Sandakan (27), Putatan (21), Tawau (21), Kota Belud (12), Beaufort (12), Kota Marudu (12), Keningau (11), Pitas (10), Tuaran (9), Ranau (8), Papar (7), Kudat (7), Tambunan (6), Tenom (6), Semporna (5), Kinabatangan (4), Sipitang (3), Kalabakan (1) and Telupid (1).

Masidi said Pitas and Kota Marudu have been reclassified from yellow to orange zone, whereas Kudat from orange to red zone.

Of the 316 new cases, he said 239 cases (75.6%) were detected through close contact screenings, 40 cases (12.7%) from symptomatic screenings, seven cases (2.2%) from existing and new clusters, four cases (1.3%) from community screenings and 26 cases (8.2%) from other categories.

He also said that a total of 229 patients have recovered or discharged from hospitals, bringing the cumulative recoveries to 35,383.

“A total of 1,752 patients are undergoing treatment, including 643 in hospitals and 1,109 at Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

“There are 55 Covid-19 patients in intensive care units and 14 require ventilation aids.”
Meanwhile, the State Government has distributed 310,193 food baskets to target groups so far.
