A shoplifting suspect shot and wounded a sheriff’s deputy and two Walmart security officers at a Virginia mall Saturday, authorities said.
The gunfire erupted around 5 p.m. at a Walmart in the Dulles Crossing Plaza in Sterling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
The Walmart security guards had confronted the suspect after he allegedly stole items from the store, officials said .
Two deputies arrived at the scene to arrest the suspect, but he pulled out a gun and began shooting at them, striking one officer and the two guards, according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspect then ran off and drove away in a stolen car. He was later caught and arrested. Charges were pending Sunday.
The three victims were taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
