Suspect Charged After Woman, Age 21, Shot in Front of Tobacco Store in Zion

A person was shot at the Tobacco Plus store in Zion, Illinois on Friday, December 18, 2020. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries (Video by Asher Heimermann/Incident Response).

Police, firefighter and paramedics from Zion responded about 7:10 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2020 to a report that a woman was shot in front of the Tobacco Plus store, 4200 Route 173 in Zion.

Police officers discovered a 21 year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the head. Zion Fire Department paramedics transported the woman to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery. She was placed on life support and is in life-threatening condition.




Vincent L. Davis, age 47, of Waukegan, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery by discharging a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a firearm by a felon. He was arrested in the block of 300 Oak Street early Saturday morning, December 20, 2020.

The initial investigation indicates that an altercation occurred between Vincent Lenell Davis and the female shooting victim before she was shot in the head. Police have not revealed whether the shooter and the victim knew each other, but an unnamed source told Cardinal News that there are indications the shooter and the victim knew each other.

Bond amount for Vincent Lenell Davis is $500,000, and his next scheduled Court Date is Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 1:30 p.m.
