Two Girls, Age 8 and Age 5, Dead in House Fire on Hunt Ave North of Rollins Rd in Ingleside in Lake County

Two young girls killed, four adults seriously injured in extra-alarm house fire in Ingleside in Lake County (Mugo Odigwe/CBS Chicago).

Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters and paramedics from Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded about 10:50 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 to a report of a house fire with people trapped in the block of 35700 North Hunt Avenue in Ingleside.

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies first on the scene reported a house fully-involved house fire.




Fox Lake Fire Protection Fire District Deputy Chief Ed Lescher, first fire unit on the scene, discovered flames showing from a front bay window, flames on the first floor, flames on the second floor, and flames already through the roof of the 2-story house.

Three of the victims with burn injuries were already out of the home before firefighters arrived. Fire crews immediately initiated a search when they were told there were two missing girls and another person still missing. One girl was found dead in a second-story bedroom and the other girl that died was found in a hallway on the second floor, according to Fox Lake Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Ed Lescher.




Another male victim was initially missing, but was rescued from the house fire. He was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, and transferred by helicopter to Loyola University Medical Center Burn Center in Maywood.

Three other victims were transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Initially the identities of the girls were not released. The victims are eight and five years old.




A MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm #22-12L was activated about 11:04 p.m.

Firefighters, paramedics and fire command officers responded with a Grayslake engine, a Richmond fire engine, a Spring Grove tender, a Wauconda tender, a Nunda Township tender, a McHenry Rescue Squad, a Gurnee ambulance, a Round Lake chief, a Lake Villa and an Antioch chief.

Firefighters from neighboring communities stood by in Fox Lake fire stations. A McHenry chief, a Woodstock ambulance, a North Chicago engine, and a Beach Park tender were assigned the Change of Quarters.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
