In the January issue, on sale now, Danielle Lawler meets Maddison May Modupe-Ojo. A former Ralph Lauren model and the granddaughter of Lady Pamela Hicks, she tells Tatler that her life hasn’t all been plain sailing. ‘At that age [as a young model] you can’t help but take it personally when you don’t get a job – your confidence and self-esteem are attacked,’ she says. ‘It affected my mental health. I was depressed, anxious, feeling pressure in the industry to keep my weight down, to party. I was addicted to drugs and battling an eating disorder.’

Reading her grandmother’s autobiography, Daughter of Empire: Life as a Mountbatten, helped Maddison realise that her life had to have purpose, she says. Now, married to music producer Ola Modupe-Ojo and with two daughters, Phebe, two, and Daphne, four, life looks rather different.
