Some sports activities allowed
Kota Kinabalu: The government has started its stage one re-opening of sports and recreation activities in the State on Tuesday (November 10) until December 6 since the implementation of the Conditional Movement Order (CMCO) statewide in October.

A statement issued by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin (pic) on Wednesday stated that certain sporting activities both indoor and outdoor will be allowed during this period with the time scheduled from 6am to 10pm daily.

“The ministry would like to announce the good news to sports enthusiasts that some sports, indoor and outdoor activities are allowed from November 10 to December 6.

“This is in line with the announcement by the Sabah National Security Council on Tuesday in the government’s efforts to revive healthy lifestyle among the community and also to help the sports industries in generating income with the new normal.

“However, this opening will only apply to indoor and outdoor activities such as walking, jogging, cycling, individual-exercise, hiking, fishing, and golf for the time being.

“The public is reminded that they should not have any physical contact in carrying out the activities and with no more than 10 persons in a group at one time. They must also comply with the sports and recreation SOP (standard operation procedure),” he said.

He added that the ongoing centralised training programmes implemented by the Sabah Sports Council are to be continued in a “Quarantine Based Approach” by complying with the SOP provided by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, while the private operators have to ensure the public is restricted to no physical contact activities.

Meanwhile, he also announced that several sports complexes in the State managed by Sabah Sports Board will be re-opened starting today (November 13).

Those available to the public are Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex for golf, tennis, squash, archery, aerobics, walking/jogging and synthetic track usage, Penampang Sports Complex (synthetic track, squash and walking/jogging), Tambunan Sports Complex (track synthetic and walking/jogging), Kota Belud Sports Complex (synthetic track and walking/jogging), Kudat Sports Complex (synthetic track, tennis and walking/jogging), Beaufort Sports Complex (synthetic track and walking/jogging), Beluran Sports Complex ( synthetic track and walking/jogging) and Nabawan Sports Complex (synthetic track and walking/jogging).

According to him, other sports complexes in Sandakan, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Keningau, Ranau, Tenom and Sipitang will remain closed as they are being temporarily utilised to cater for the Covid-19 crisis in the districts.
