Good news for Texas Longhorn fans — reinforcements are on the way. On the same day the Longhorns dropped a tough Big 12 game to Iowa State, Texas commit
Jonathon Brooks rushed 27 times for 501 yards and nine touchdowns Friday leading
Hallettsville (Texas) to a wild 61-48 third-round 3A-1 playoff win over Loreno.
According to
AdvoSports, the 6-foot, 185-pound senior running back scored on runs of 3, 69, 25, 1, 6, 36, 29, 46 yards and 52 yards. The Brahmas (11-2) raced to a 40-13 lead before Loreno made a big comeback. Brooks' TD runs of 46 and 52 yards put it away.
As the video above shows, Brooks showed off excellent speed with some nifty downfield moves to vault his team into the playoff quarterfinals, where it will face
Columbus, a 38-22 winner over Yoakim. Columbus eliminated Hallettsville last season in the playoffs.
Brooks rushed for 1,310 yards and 24 touchdowns as a junior. Texas Tech was also among his
seven offers. He committed to the Longhorns on May 15.
